Key Points: Paint Protection Film (PPF), BMW M Individual Riviera Blue Exterior Paint, Ultimate Pack
The G80-generation BMW M3 Competition is a high-performance variant of the potent German saloon, equipped with a new twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine; the ‘S58’ unit first used in the X3 M SUV. In the standard M3 it develops 473bhp, though in the Competition, power climbs to 503bhp.
A six-speed manual gearbox is found on the standard M3, but all Competition variants are equipped with a ZF eight-speed automatic torque converter. The xDrive all-wheel drive system is optional, marking the first time an M3 has used a drivetrain layout other than rear-wheel drive.
On base M3s, the wheels are 18-inches at the front and 19-inches at the rear, growing to 19 and 20-inches respectively on Competition models. It features a new M Traction control system, which allows the driver to set the system to one of 10 positions which dictate how much slip is allowed at the rear axle. The standard Adaptive M suspension allows drivers to adjust the damper characteristics between Comfort, Sport, and Sport+ modes, and there are two driver-selectable settings for brake pedal feel: Comfort and Sport.
A rear-wheel drive example, this M3 is fitted with the all-encompassing Ultimate Pack, which combines the M Carbon package with the Visibility Pack, Comfort Pack and Technology Plus pack. It features lightweight carbon-fibre trim, as well as the BMW Laserlight system, a heated steering wheel, a powered boot lid, and the Driving Assistant Professional suite of features, which includes adaptive cruise control and lane assist, along with Parking Assistant Plus.
