The Ferrari GTC4Lusso, introduced at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, represents one of Maranello’s most sophisticated expressions of the grand touring ideal. Serving as the direct successor to the Ferrari FF, this shooting-brake model combines supercar performance with the practical luxury of a genuine four-seater. At its heart lies a naturally aspirated 6.3-litre V12 engine, a masterpiece of internal combustion that produces 681 bhp and 697 Nm of torque. This immense power is sent through a complex dual-clutch seven-speed gearbox, enabling the substantial grand tourer to rocket from a standstill to 62 mph in just 3.4 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 208 mph.
What truly sets the GTC4Lusso apart from traditional supercars is its highly advanced drivetrain and chassis technology. It retains the unique four-wheel-drive system of its predecessor but integrates rear-wheel steering for the first time on a four-seat Ferrari. This combination, known as the 4RM-S system, works in tandem with the fourth generation of Ferrari’s Side Slip Control. On greasy British B-roads or during Alpine winter excursions, the system seamlessly transfers torque to whichever wheel has the most grip, making a large and powerful front-engined car feel incredibly agile, sure-footed, and compact in tighter corners.
Visually, the GTC4Lusso refines the shooting-brake silhouette into a much more cohesive and aggressive shape than the FF. The roofline has been lowered at the rear, creating a fastback-style curve that maintains excellent headroom for passengers while improving aerodynamic efficiency. A large front grille provides ample cooling for the massive V12 engine, while the rear features a subtle roof spoiler, a prominent rear diffuser, and traditional twin circular tail lights on either side. The sculpted flanks and functional air vents behind the front wheels further emphasize its athletic stance.
The interior is designed around a dual-cockpit concept that involves the front passenger in the driving experience. The dashboard features a central 10.25-inch high-definition touchscreen infotainment system, alongside an optional passenger display that shows engine speed, vehicle velocity, and current driving settings. High-quality leather, brushed aluminium, and carbon-fibre accents cover nearly every surface. Crucially, the rear accommodates two adults in genuine comfort, offering ample legroom and a panoramic glass roof that bathes the cabin in natural light, making long continental journeys effortless for all occupants.
Practicality is surprisingly well catered for, reinforcing the everyday usability of this thoroughbred Ferrari. The rear tailgate opens to reveal a 450-litre boot, which can expand significantly when the rear seats are folded down. This space is more than adequate for a weekend's worth of luggage, a set of golf clubs, or ski equipment. Combined with a relatively compliant adaptive suspension system that irons out road imperfections, the car transforms from a ferocious track-capable weapon into a refined cruiser at the turn of the steering-wheel-mounted Manettino switch, highlighting its dual personality.
